A little wedding music

I had the honor of singing at a wedding that was truly centered on Christ. While I by no means consider myself a musician, I love the chance to sing with friends. How beautiful it was to serve and share in this event, especially when it allowed us to glorify God with our talents and help bring others closer to God in worship.

Director Angie Fitzsimmons and co-director Carter Montag led us, and the congregation, through the celebration not only of Miles and Stephanie’s union, but of the mass. Even though everyone loves a great party, for Catholics, the wedding celebration is all about the mass. The mass reminds us of Christ’s love and sacrifice. Therefore, since marriage is an image of Christ’s sacrifice through the giving of, and dying-to oneself to fully love to the other, it is especially beautiful to celebrate the mass during a wedding. I expected nothing less than a celebration of Christ and faith from this truly joyful couple and can’t wait to see how God continues to draw them to him through their marriage.

This was the first of what I hope to be many weddings that celebrates my friends’ deeper commitments to God, as they come to know him together. I loved that this event allowed us to honor our friends through the contribution of our talents. The event became so much more than a well-planned day, but facilitated the start of a lifetime of relationship with God and with each other.
